The Future City

A rendering of a futuristic sports stadium in a city

Jacksonville Jaguars’ $1.4 billion Stadium of the Future

When we launched Outerface, our goal was to help reinvent physical spaces - from offices and apartments to entire cities.

These shifts were accelerated by the pandemic, but they’re also the result of long-term digital disruption. While society is still "figuring out" the city of the future, BLDUP, Inc recently highlighted a compelling trend that might provide an answer.

Cities are moving beyond simple entertainment centers. They are becoming integrated environments where residents live, work, and play simultaneously. While that alone doesn’t sound new, there’s a twist:

The surprising catalyst is sports.

The sector is seeing its strongest building cycle in over 25 years, with $18.4 billion in stadium construction spending this year alone. We are seeing a massive shift in development strategy: moving away from standalone venues and toward "neighborhood anchors." Coast to coast, these hubs combine sports, housing, retail, and transit to drive year-round economic growth.

At Outerface, we think they’re onto something here.
